Evergreen Marine: two companies, two allowances, one white-label app

When offices reopened, Evergreen Marine wanted to give employees a funded daily meal. The complication was that its UK facility is shared with Galderma, and each wanted to fund its own people at its own rate. Facilipay delivered one app that pays two different allowances to the right staff.

Evergreen Marine: two companies, two allowances, one white-label app

<h2>The setting</h2> <p>Evergreen Marine is one of the world's largest container shipping lines. Its UK operation shares a corporate facility with Galderma, the skin health company, and a single on-site catering operation run by <strong>Cleverchefs Catering Ltd</strong> serves both.</p> <p>That arrangement is common in modern office parks and increasingly awkward to fund. Two employers, two HR policies, two budgets — and one till.</p><h2>The challenge</h2> <p>Both companies wanted to use a funded daily meal as an incentive for staff to return to the office. Neither wanted to hand out paper vouchers or reconcile spreadsheets at month end. The specific problems were:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Two different allowance values, one catering operation.</strong> Evergreen Marine set its allowance at £9.24 per day; Galderma set its own at a different rate. The same till had to apply the correct entitlement to whoever was standing in front of it.</li> <li><strong>No way for staff to prove which company they worked for</strong> at the point of sale, other than asking — which slows a lunch queue and invites error.</li> <li><strong>The caterer had to bill each company separately</strong> for exactly what its own employees consumed, with evidence both finance teams would accept.</li> <li><strong>Nobody wanted an onboarding barrier.</strong> If claiming the allowance was awkward, staff would not use it, and the incentive would fail.</li> </ul><h2>The app</h2> <p>Facilipay published a white-label app under the client's own brand, live on the <a href="https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/evergreen-marine/id1586168276">Apple App Store</a> and <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=evergreenmarine2.loylap.app&hl=en_IE">Google Play</a>. Employees of both companies use the same app; the platform decides what each of them is entitled to.</p> <h2>Allowance tiers</h2> <p>One dashboard campaign segments users by registered email domain and applies the matching daily allowance automatically — no entitlement lists, no HR sync, correct from a new starter's first day.</p> <p><strong>One campaign, two allowance tiers, resolved by email domain</strong></p><table> <thead><tr><th>Company</th><th>Email domain</th><th>Daily allowance</th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Evergreen Marine</td><td>@evergreen-marine.co.uk</td><td>£9.24</td></tr> <tr><td>Galderma</td><td>@galderma.com</td><td>£7.50</td></tr> </tbody></table><h2>Claiming at the till</h2> <p>The allowance is credited daily. The employee scans their QR code at the counter, the entitlement is applied, and anything above it is paid as normal. Unclaimed allowance expires with the day. The credential can be stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, so it works without opening the app.</p> <img src="https://pdxgybcqigjepeuikhea.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/media/d26d37b1-6cf6-4cb8-8846-b6528f9f3fbe/employee-using-digital-wallet-for-workplace-payment-1782384902973.png" alt="Employee using a digital wallet pass to claim a workplace meal allowance" / data-align="center"> <h2>Reporting and billing</h2> <p>Cleverchefs exports per-company campaign reports and invoices each employer directly. Weekly reports break spend down by working day per employee; monthly reports run one column per month across the programme's life, each with a summary total.</p> <p><strong>Weekly report: one sheet per week, one row per employee, one column per working day (illustrative rows)</strong></p><table> <thead><tr><th>Employee</th><th>Mon</th><th>Tue</th><th>Wed</th><th>Thu</th><th>Fri</th><th>Weekly total</th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Employee A</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£3.60</td><td>£8.15</td><td>£3.70</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£15.45</td></tr> <tr><td>Employee B</td><td>£4.30</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£4.60</td><td>£2.85</td><td>£3.90</td><td>£15.65</td></tr> <tr><td>Employee C</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£4.00</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£0.00</td><td>£4.00</td></tr> </tbody></table><h2>Bringing people back</h2> <p>The programme's first year tracks the return to the office almost perfectly. Redemption began in November 2021 with a handful of transactions, reached £12,089 in a single month by September 2022, and settled into a steady rhythm from there.</p>

<p>Usage is now spread evenly across Monday to Thursday, with a modest dip on Friday — the signature of a settled hybrid week rather than a token gesture.</p>

<div data-chart="{&quot;type&quot;: &quot;bar&quot;, &quot;title&quot;: &quot;Where the week&#x27;s spend falls&quot;, &quot;unit&quot;: &quot;%&quot;, &quot;caption&quot;: &quot;Share of allowance transactions by weekday, Evergreen Marine&quot;, &quot;series&quot;: [&quot;Share of transactions&quot;], &quot;legend&quot;: &quot;none&quot;, &quot;orientation&quot;: &quot;horizontal&quot;, &quot;align&quot;: &quot;full&quot;, &quot;size&quot;: &quot;small&quot;, &quot;data&quot;: [{&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Monday&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 20.0}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Tuesday&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 20.4}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Wednesday&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 20.8}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Thursday&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 20.0}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Friday&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 18.9}]}"></div> <h2>The numbers</h2> <p>Across nearly five years the programme has paid out <strong>£875,195</strong> in daily allowances over <strong>268,219</strong> transactions to <strong>515</strong> employees across the two companies.</p>

<div data-chart="{&quot;type&quot;: &quot;donut&quot;, &quot;title&quot;: &quot;Allowance value redeemed by company&quot;, &quot;caption&quot;: &quot;Cumulative since go-live, September 2021 (GBP)&quot;, &quot;unit&quot;: &quot;\u00a3&quot;, &quot;legend&quot;: &quot;bottom&quot;, &quot;labelMode&quot;: &quot;percent&quot;, &quot;align&quot;: &quot;full&quot;, &quot;size&quot;: &quot;medium&quot;, &quot;centerLabel&quot;: &quot;Total redeemed&quot;, &quot;data&quot;: [{&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Evergreen Marine&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 789673, &quot;color&quot;: &quot;#2DCCD3&quot;}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;Galderma&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 85522, &quot;color&quot;: &quot;#041C2C&quot;}]}"></div>

<p>Evergreen Marine accounts for the large majority of the volume, reflecting its larger headcount on site. Galderma's average transaction runs higher, at £4.10 against £3.19.</p> <p><strong>Programme to date by company (GBP)</strong></p><table> <thead><tr><th>Company</th><th>Employees enrolled</th><th>Transactions</th><th>Value redeemed</th><th>Avg per transaction</th></tr></thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Evergreen Marine</td><td>329</td><td>247,342</td><td>£789,673</td><td>£3.19</td></tr> <tr><td>Galderma</td><td>186</td><td>20,877</td><td>£85,522</td><td>£4.10</td></tr> <tr><td>Combined</td><td>515</td><td>268,219</td><td>£875,195</td><td>£3.26</td></tr> </tbody></table> <p>Year on year, Evergreen Marine's redeemed value grew from £89,605 in 2022 to £211,144 in 2025 — an increase of 136% as office attendance normalised and enrolment widened.</p>

<div data-chart="{&quot;type&quot;: &quot;bar&quot;, &quot;title&quot;: &quot;Annual allowance value by company&quot;, &quot;caption&quot;: &quot;Full calendar years 2022\u20132025 (GBP)&quot;, &quot;unit&quot;: &quot;\u00a3&quot;, &quot;series&quot;: [&quot;Evergreen Marine&quot;, &quot;Galderma&quot;], &quot;legend&quot;: &quot;bottom&quot;, &quot;align&quot;: &quot;full&quot;, &quot;size&quot;: &quot;medium&quot;, &quot;data&quot;: [{&quot;label&quot;: &quot;2022&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 89605, &quot;value2&quot;: 14246}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;2023&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 167147, &quot;value2&quot;: 20856}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;2024&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 197532, &quot;value2&quot;: 21574}, {&quot;label&quot;: &quot;2025&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: 211144, &quot;value2&quot;: 28783}]}"></div>

<p>In a typical recent year an active employee claimed close to 290 times, comfortably more than once per working day.</p><h2>Results</h2> <ul> <li><strong>£875,195 in allowances redeemed</strong> across both companies since September 2021</li> <li><strong>268,219 allowance transactions</strong> processed without per-transaction intervention</li> <li><strong>515 employees enrolled</strong> across two employers on a single app</li> <li><strong>Two allowance tiers</strong> applied automatically by email domain, with no manual entitlement lists</li> <li><strong>Per-company billing</strong> exported by the caterer in two clicks, weekly or monthly</li> <li><strong>Live for almost five years</strong> on the same configuration</li> </ul><h2>What it proved</h2> <p>The hard part of a shared-facility benefit is not the payment; it is knowing who is entitled to what, and being able to bill for it afterwards. Resolving entitlement from something the employee already has — their work email address — removed the administration entirely, for both employers and for the caterer.</p> <p>The model generalises to any multi-tenant site: business parks, shared campuses, co-located subsidiaries, and any facility where one catering operator serves several employers with different policies.</p><p>Delivered by Facilipay for Evergreen Marine and Galderma, with Cleverchefs Catering Ltd as on-site catering partner. Live since 13 September 2021. All amounts in pounds sterling.</p>
